Raised by a hardworking single mother and growing up in deep poverty, Elijah experienced chronic homelessness, food insecurity, and the harsh realities of living paycheck to paycheck. He understands what it’s like to go to school hungry, to live without electricity, and to wonder where his family would sleep at night.But despite these hardships, Elijah refused to let his circumstances define him. As a teenager, he started his own small landscaping business, knocking on doors to earn money to help his mother with bills, buy his own school supplies, and even afford bus passes to get to the library—his refuge for learning and growth. At just nine years old, he was inspired by Barack Obama’s historic election, igniting his passion for public service. He began writing to elected officials, speaking at school board and city council meetings, and advocating for issues affecting his community. Expanding Medicaid is vital to provide health insurance for many low-income individuals. Universal healthcare would enhance access to essential care, eliminate insurance barriers, and improve health outcomes, fostering a more equitable system for all.

As a board member of the Downtown Fort Lauderdale Civic Association, I work with city leaders and developers to encourage smart growth while maintaining community quality of life. In Congress I plan to secure funding for sustainable, inclusive housing solutions that support residents and businesses.

A Jobs for All Guarantee is proposed as a key solution to provide stable jobs with fair wages and benefits for all residents.

Thriving Economy

Climate change is worsened by fossil fuel and sugarcane industries prioritizing profit over the environment, leading to pollution that harms ecosystems like the Everglades. To address this, stricter runoff regulations, sustainable farming, and improved water management are needed. Transitioning is crucial for environmental protection and supporting affected communities.
